Dave Geisler – Biography

I started fishing in the 1960’s but my lifelong passion for fly fishing began in 1975. I have enjoyed fishing the streams, rivers, and lakes of Alberta. This passion was strongly influenced by my friend Joe. We first met during a fishing excursion in the Rockies around Canmore. I was fishing in a canoe and found the trout to be elusive and challenging. This was not the case for Joe and his family. They were having fun catching fish, right from under my boat! From fly fishing to fly tying, Joe has been my friend and inspiration.  

As a commercial fly tyer and accomplished angler, I spend time designing and creating new fly patterns. I have taught courses in fly fishing and fly tying with schools and various clubs. Sharing my knowledge with the young is what keeps my enthusiasm high. I participate in the Western Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition in Calgary, volunteering at the “kid’s corner”.  It was at this event, I met my wife Deborah, my fly tying, and fly fishing partner. We both share the same Motto: Keep things simple. There are no secrets, just success!

Many people ask about the origin of the FishMaster. On one of our fishing adventures, my daughter created the FishMaster competition. The person who caught the most fish was the winner and named the FishMaster of the universe. The significance of her victory became the name of my business.
