It has been a long time coming but it is finally up and running. Welcome to the 2010 edition of the FishMaster.com. This year looks to be one of the most exciting ever; it is going to be a fly fishing frenzy. The focus for the summer of 2010 is to fish, fish, and fish even more than years past.

This past Family Day weekend we travelled to the Crowsnest River stopping at the Crowsnest Angler to have a short visit with Vic Bergman. The river is beautiful this time of year with the water so clear, and the fish are so visible. Sometimes sneaking up on them is hard to do, but even the fish have to have a good day.

We have some amazing trips planned to some great waters that I haven’t been to in a few years. I am really excited and looking forward to fishing this season with my sweetie and some of best fishing friends. Join us on these adventures of the summer by reading my newsletters.

Coming up in March is the 3rd annual “Great Western Sport Fishing Show” www.greatwesternsportfishingshow.com in Spokane Washington on March 5th - 7th, 2010.  Deborah and I have attended in all three shows and always have so much fun. We meet great people who love to fish and tie flies along with fly fishing legends and celebrities, great suppliers, and great friends.

Deborah and I attended the Northern Lights Fly Tyers TU Edmonton Chapter January Seminar featuring Gary Borger and Mike Lawson. We enjoyed and appreciated the professionalism and friendliness of the members of the Northern Lights Fly Club who hosted the event. www.nlft.org

Both Gary and Mike shared their wisdom of fly fishing and fly tying. It was a weekend of incredible learning opportunities that took fly fishing to a whole new level. In this sport, you never stop learning.

We had the privilege of viewing both Mike and Gary tie some proven flies. Mike tied the No-Hackle Dun Fly and made it look easy! Gary said as fly fishermen/women we are predators and we learned the basic behaviors of fish and their field of vision. Gary also presented a casting/mending session that had all of us participants wanting to learn more. We viewed slide presentations of some of their favorite fishing areas. Both Mike and Gary spoke about fly fishing approaches and presentation with laughter and jokes filling both days.

We also participated in the Western Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition at Spruce Meadows volunteering in the “kid’s corner.” It always amazes us to see the fascination on their faces and excitement as they experience fly fishing and tying. The fish races are always a big hit for kids of all ages. With everyone’s continued efforts we have seen the kid’s area grow. It is our goal to introduce children to the sport as they are our future in fly fishing.
